Where lies the injustice with the system in regards to Tony?

All of his assets were seized without trial and his ability to defend himself is thereby severely diminished.

He is held without bail, also severely limiting his ability to defend himself. Is there no other practical way to mitigate a flight risk? Is there a greater flight risk in this case than others where temporary freedom is allowed? How much of this perceived flight risk is due to accusations of 9/11 foreknowledge?

However, Bear, I am posting not so much to protest the legal treatment, but rather the treatment in the press and on these message boards.

The non-legal part of this reminds me of The Stranger' by Camus. In The Stranger, a man's mother dies and his neighbors feel he is not properly mournful. Eventually he is convicted of murder.

Point is, people are quick to gang up and rush to judgment. That is why we do have a legal process, which does operate reasonably well in this country.

Unfortunately, the legal process is sometimes subverted by ethically corrupt officials in an environment of approval or passivity by society, e.g. Dred Scott, etc.

I have no expertise in the legal process, but I can participate in the formation of public attitude, which seems to me has swung way too far to the Hang Him High camp.

Finally, Bear, I appreciate your intentions to be fair-minded.

Peter
