I will agree partially. As a society, we tend to focus on the problems as presented by the media. The spotlight seems to shift from subject to subject, intended to inflame us enough to stay interested. Have you noticed that it is harder and harder to find news on the war on terrorism and Afghanistan? The media ratings must have dropped, so they moved on. Gun violence may be the hot topic now, and may fade away without resolution as the media searches for fresh subject. But we'll probably still be here debating into the wee hours... <g>
