On the general topic, I happen to have a book on ice cores out of the library, so I went looking for copies of some charts and graphs. It's a teeny bit scary. The Vostok Ice cores have been analyzed to give some climatic history going back over 400k years. See nicl-smo.sr.unh.edu . Previous cycles show a CO2 peak concentration at 300ppm. Currently, we're at 365 ppm and rising fast.

The near term graph of atmospheric CO2 looks like this: hyperphysics.phy-astr.gsu.edu

If you go back a little farther, though, the graph looks a little more unpleasant: chemistry.beloit.edu

Looks like we're headed fast and deep into uncharted territory. As W's father used to say, Don't worry, be happy!
