There are very few times I get arrogant enuf to say "Don't argue with me", but this is one of them. I have an MS in Respiratory Physiology, been a respiratory therapist just short of 30 years.

Trust me. CO2 kills. Sometimes it even kills because we give too much oxygen to some patients (Wiping out hypoxic drive in COPD patient with limited sensitivity to CO2). Trust me, you don't want to argue with me. Yeah, hypoxia kills, too, but they didn't carry CO2 scrubbers just to have clean dishes in their galleys.

Also, there is a very substantial hypoxic drive. It really kicks in at a PaO2<60, but it surely is there, mostly located in the carotid bodies, which is why some misguided fools used to get their c.bs ablated; so they wouldn't feel short of breath.

(As far as the Greenhouse Theory, so far the data is consistent with the theory)
