Croc and Ish, You've likely heard the saying "If it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck, chances are it's a duck". But I saw a new twist on that bird this week in South Texas. My brother, who lives there, pointed out a new breed that has been sighted in the area this year. The unusual thing about them is that they perch on electrical lines and in trees but otherwise look and fly like other ducks. My brother didn't know if they take to water like other ducks or if their feet are webbed, which wouldn't seem to work so well while sitting on a power line. The ones I saw were in silhouette in the late afternoon, so I couldn't see their colors and so forth. Are these odd ducks, so to speak, or just a common breed that may be new to Texas?
