Hi Karen,

I'm currently reading James Bamford's "Body of Secrets". While the History Channel had a one hour documentary about the USS Liberty incident this season, they hardly scratched the surface of the duplicity of the Israeli Defense Forces, the Israeli diplomatic corps and the U.S. military and diplomatic establishment. Bamford goes into great detail about the war crimes that the Liberty was about to be privy to in the Sinai.

It does give one pause to think that the Israelis negotiated and re-negotiated with the U.S. government on payment for the destruction of the Liberty. While the U.S. had recently spent well over $20 Million refurbishing the boat as a spy platform, the Israelis eventually settled for about $6 Million, with the acquiescence of friends in the U.S.

It really makes me wonder what our priorities are. Since the Liberty incident, the U.S. government has provided over $100 Billion in foreign aid to Israel, to a country that willfully attacked U.S. citizens and military equipment and lied about it for decades.

The current contretemps between the land hungry and imperialistic Israelis and the aboriginal Palestinians can be rather precisely dated to the incendiary land-grab instituted by Israel in the wake of the 1967 war. This is the contemporary replay of the U.S. Army subduing the native tribes of the American West in the 1800's, and throwing the survivors of the genocide into concentration camps. The only thing different this time is that we aren't providing small-pox laden blankets to the "Injuns". But that is coming, I feel certain. Why else would our media be creating discussion about the importance of vaccinations for a disease that is only known to exist in two highly secure military laboratories in the world?

The "World According to Bush" is indeed a scary place.
