| I was trying to see what had been deemed particularly noteworthy, like "Chocolat" and "Momento" (I am blanking on the others, at the moment.) I finally caught "Pollack", a painter who is a particular favorite of mine, played by Ed Harris, an actor I respect. The movie never came to life, and even Marcia Gay Harden, who is a good actress, and won acclaim for her role as Lee Krassner, seemed to me to be competent more than inspired. I just remembered, one of the rentals was "O Brother Where Art Thou?", which I kept missing. I like the Coen brothers. "Fargo" is a classic, and I was one of the few people I knew who liked "The Hudsucker Proxy". "Barton Fink", though a bit uneven, is basically inspired. But though I enjoyed "O Brother....." somewhat, especially at the political meeting, mostly I thought it was thin. I will keep a lookout for your recommendations....... |
