This looks like a great thread, if we take the books to "The first 500" and discuss them a little. I am retired in Waikiki and my number one activity is reading. Our Library system is "on line," and I reserve about 10 books a week and exchange on Saturday.
Everybody here seems to be very SF oriented. I read a lot ot it 40 years ago, and quit when I realized there could never be a War in space. Based on recommendations here, I just reserved "To Reign in Hell." I tend to go by "Favorite Author" rather than books.
1) Ayn Rand. All of them, fiction and non. "Atlas Shrugged", number one, of course.
2) W.E.B. Griffin. "Brotherhood of War" series, and all of his series. He has a hypnotic effect on me. I tend to reread his Military series every three years. He is the only Author that is true for.
3) Elmore Leonard. All of them. A true master of his craft.
4) The "Flashman" series, by George MacDonald Fraser. "Damn your eyes!" If you are not familiar with "Flashy," who caused the charge of the Light Brigade, pulled bodies out of the well at Cawnpure, and was a scout for Custer at "Greasy Grass," I pity you.
5) The "Harry Bosch" novels, by Michael Connelly. I finished his new one, "City of Bones", nonstop in one evening last week. I don't often do that.
I will be back with more. |
