SEATTLE (Dow Jones)--Targeted Genetics Corp. (TGEN) received a notice of allowance for a U.S. patent covering versions of the protein used to correct the defect in cystic fibrosis. In a press release Monday, the company said genes encoding these proteins can be delivered with any gene therapy vector. The company said the patent covers truncated or shortened versions of the cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator protein which can maintain function in conducting cloride across the surface of lungs, a goal of cystic fibrosis gene therapy.
