A little too cutsey with the Truman comparisons, the contemporary parallels with Truman's divided advice, etc. But the point is made.

Lots of Friedman's columns are too cutesy. When theres a choice to be made between a careful point and a catchy phrase, the catchy phrase wins every time. He made his point alright, and it still stinks -- offer Arafat an even better deal than Taba on the table. Could you please explain to me how any Palestian could possibly regard such an outcome as anything BUT a validation of the current strategy?

In that light, Friedman's comment in his column about the political loyalties of Jewish leaders moving toward Bush, versus the loyalties of the non leadership staying with the Dems was kind of interesting. It was just a passing observation but was there.

Considering that Jeb's running for reelection, I'm sure that Karl Rove and W have thought about it more than once.
