Arun, that's true <The airline industry has not done all that great with its Cat's Eyes pricing of Airline tickets. Just for a real world reference.> Their profits have been puny.

But imagine what would happen if airlines were fly-all-you-like operations running at 20% capacity.

The airlines which do run high quality Cat's Eyes pricing systems do make money. Their profits come from the last little bit of loading and they need the planes full. Cellphone systems are the same.

Right now, the cellphone operators are in trouble. Those with low costs and high loadings do better. The days of fat, dumb, happy and expensive are over.
