Starr speaks very sensibly of the Y2K crisis being blown out of proportion. He speaks very sensibly, as someone who is on top of his systems, knows what they contain, and is preparing to handle the change in a timely fashion.

But does he speak for the majority?

The number of companies who have mission-critical code running on an "old Charlie" system that no one has fully comprehended in the last ten years is greater than anyone cares to admit. These are the companies who will have a stressful millenium and enrich consultants.
