I'm saying that there is a magic formula in SV, a key component being the stock option.

You have never responded to my frequent suggestion that there were many highly successful, innovative hi- tech companies that were formed prior to the recent era of prolific stock options. One might even argue that there were more great companies formed in the decades of the 60s,70s and 80s than there were in the 90s decade. What do you think?

On the other hand, you may be referring to the pace of technological innovation rather than well run businesses---which are two separate matters entirely. No question that the pace of technological innovation is improved by easy access to capital, and the rapid pace of technological innovation is probably in our national interest. Nevertheless, I seriously doubt that we will lose our technological lead simply because stock options are expensed on the income statements. Where will the opportunities for bright minds be better?

And if SV employees wind up attending a few more of their kids birthday parties instead of sleeping under their desks, that is probably a positive benefit for all concerned as well. <ggg>

Best, Huey
