<< And why IS it the United States' business to tell Israel how to run its democracy, if it is NOT the United States' business to tell the Arab states how to run their (far worse, from any human rights perspective at all) states? >>

Nadine, when was the last time an American president had the fortitude to fully put a leash on Israel and force a peace between the Israelis and the Egyptians? And since the United States is supporting the Israeli war effort by providing three billion dollars of foreign aid and the most sophisticated war machines in the world, you better believe the United States is going to have some influence with the Israelis. It's the same way the two billion dollars of American foreign aid to Egypt is buying peace and a moderated tone against Israel.

If you wish to criticize the only friend the Israelis have in the Middle East, go right ahead. But bite the hand which feeds you once too often and a rude reality is awaiting.

<< Except the one who already has -- Jordan, whose population is 80% Palestinian. >>

Jordan isn't going to accept any more Palestinian refugees for the same reasons the Israelis won't: it's going to be too much of a financial burden. Now if you are proposing the entire West Bank is returned to Jordan, along with the refugees and the water rights, then I conceded that is a workable solution. But the Arab contingency will never agree to that point in the same way Israelis will never concede the right of return to Israel, proper.

<< It was the Arabs who started the Arab/Israeli wars that are at the root of the problem, after all. >>

Once again, that is in your humble opinion. And the creation of the state of Israel had absolutely nothing to do with the Palestinian Arab refugee problem? No one is faultless here Nadine.

<< The occupation that has REALLY created such a culture is not the Israeli occupation, but the Tunisian occupation. >>

And who is continuing and expanding the occupation?
