Starbase Corporation Granted Technology Patents;

U.S. Patents Demonstrate Starbase's Ingenuity and Technology Advancements

June 10, 2002 08:15:00 AM ET

SANTA ANA, Calif., June 10 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Starbase Corporation SBAS, a leading provider of enterprise application management solutions designed to speed the software development lifecycle, today announced being granted two United States patents for the company's StarDisk product. The patents, recently given to three Starbase engineers, underscore Starbase's commitment to excellence in technology and continued industry leadership.

StarDisk is one of several client interface products from Starbase that allow users to extract and deposit files onto the server while eliminating any significant learning for Windows users. Although the disk is "virtual," the user simply treats it as though it were another physical disk, which is identified with its own drive. The first patent covers the portion of the invention that represents the contents of the Starbase server as a "virtual disk." The second covers the portion of the software that actually integrates information about the files on the "virtual disk" with existing Windows Explorer user interface.

"As technology continues to evolve and offer businesses more and more options, it is important to implement solutions that are easy to use, efficient and have value for the business user," said Scott Hunter, executive vice president of engineering for Starbase. "StarDisk, a part of the StarTeam product family, provides a measurable cost-effective solution to manage various forms of content for the Starbase Server. More importantly these two patents speak well for the technology innovation that is a part of every Starbase product overall."

The United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) grants patents to corporations or individuals for the protection of inventions by examining applications classified as either utility, design or plant patents. Once a patent is obtained, the grant allows the registered owner to exclude others from making, using, offering for sale or selling the invention in the United States or importing the invention to the United States.

"Starbase is proud to achieve the honor of these recent patents for the StarDisk client interface," continued Hunter. "We are confident that as the company continues to grow and evolve, Starbase will continue to be recognized by its ground-breaking technology."
