"I don't know that there's any universal standard on such things so I guess we are each entitled to our opinions."

Yes I guess so. In this case my opinion is based on qualified facts and events, while yours is based on what makes you feel better about things.

"Name calling looks like this: "You bigot, you."

Criticism involves describing a suboptimal behavior. Name-calling attaches an unflattering label to a person.

This is the distinction I make between criticism and name-calling and why I described your actions as name-calling."

Even when I try to associate your definition to the specific incident it falls through. My comments were not in the nature of "You are a ____." They were to a third party labeling the behavior appropriately (even in a way the behavor likes to label it herself).

Well it definitely was unflattering. I will give you that. Even though X used these terms to describe her own behavior in this specific incident she may have felt provoked by someone else doing the same thing. (in my opinion she already had a full snoot of whatever the problem was) Sometimes people allow some self criticism among understanding friends (splashing in puddles) but when the same reference is used by a critic it tends to barb more than what is comfortable.

I guess we are each entitled to our opinions. In my opinion there was no name calling, perhaps an unflattering remark offered by someone X had a vendetta against, but no name calling. As you've demonstrated over the past couple of years, unflattering remarks about X, even though completely justified, will never be tolerated on your watch. So, I should have also anticipated provocation on your part. Apologies for overlooking your sensitivity in this area....
