If I had the power to pass two laws, they would be this.

1. Every member of Congress and every member of their stafffs, and every employee of the executive branch, must certify under penalty of perjury and of instant dismissal from their positions and permanent banning from any government service, that they have personally filled out their own income tax returns without the use of any other person, professional or otherwise, any tax software, books, or any other materials other than a copy of the tax code and the IRS forms. Nothing more.

2. Every legislator, before being allowed to vote on any bill, must certify under the same penalties that they have read the bill in its entirety and that they understand every single provision of it.

Now, if we had the ability to have national referendum [like some of the other countries have] we might just be able to pull it off. I think we both know how your proposed legislation would fare in Congress.

Unfortunately, we have a lot of conservatives that keep on saying this is a Democratic Republic and the people aren't supposed to have a say in the specifics; they're just supposed to elect their choice and lean back in their easy chair and let the Congress and Administration do what's 'best'.
