as not actually being able to see the actual action itself has caused me to stay away.

I've never understood why anyone would watch an eclipse through one of those devices when you can see it on TV of the internet. I've looked at eclipses live for a second or two. If you can't look straight at live event, then it isn't a live event. You might as well do the laundry or read a book.
