There are all sorts of goldbugs - permabulls, back-and-forthers, fully committed fanatics, periodic dabblers, dogmatic preachers, pragmatic thinkers, some wear leather and chains and pack whips, most of us just like the frilly little grass kilts and tend to have a beer/doobie in our whip hand, you know how it goes - it's not just one personality type by any means .... gold makes a lot of sense in some ways - only real extant form of money, can't be faked by politicians, bla bla bla ... silly however to get overmuch carried away in this tunnel of thought, as politicians can stomp on gold, and have done so in the past, and anyway all the Truth in the world is packaged in the charts, one must learn to read them, as preacheth el TLC ... i learned this early enough to benefit somewhat from the tech mania while it was still rolling strong
Shorting appeals to me, i have vowed various times to begin the practice, never have yet, there always seems to be some long play preferable at the time ... for instance, a year and a half ago here were three pretty obvious outfits with proven and greatly undervalued reserves - stockcharts.com stockcharts.com stockcharts.com - the first two have been taken over by larger outfits now but this last mfl has not, so i am watching it very closely for a reentry opportunity [having missed much of its rise by selling too much too soon] [which is no tragedy as i did well with the nickels in others like xcl, ngt, aas, iau, etc]
We have shorts in resources too, here is a respected one, Doña Elisabeth - #reply-17047681 ... she doesn't think much of this PoS, does she ... and she makes good points, the reasons why it is cheaper than it might otherwise be
Your old covered call approach, of rolling over continuous options to cut costs of hopefully rising shareprices, i've wondered if that might be applied to issues like nmc.to, which is the canadian version of Newmont nem.ny ... major leverage in these because you can get seventy per cent margin on them, play with other people's money, until they want it back, that is
But the real fun is the drillbit play, the little two-bit share into which you would never never even consider sinking two per cent of your worldly wealth, but you pick up a few in tax-loss time maybe when discouraged punters from the year before are giving up on it, then next spring the PoS pulls some spectacular bit of core, or more often just trades like it has, or is going to ... 'spec cycles' we call them, you'll recognise the genre from amzn, yhoo, csco, dell, etc ... even better one of these as the PoG is upticking on a fine spring day just as you discover that your early planting of maís has been successful and there will indeed be elote for the table before the first of August - ahhhh ... perhaps this is cultural, a thing to which one becomes accustomed over the years, having been spoilt forever by some PoS drillbit play back in the sixties ... still, even so ...
Oh oh, here is a post - #reply-17584609 ... right on ... but 'twas always thus in some sector, eh
Fútbol - how could i make an intelligent guess knowing nothing of it ... after Méx-Ecuador last night i caught a bit of the turks, that's a pretty cool fan club they have all in red, and with their flag like that ... so i guess now i know two things about fútbol -g- ... yes i will check it out, back to garden now though .... cháu |
