Additionally, it conveys that Bush was changing his previous position - another reality, much as he would have liked to hide it. <"This White House acknowledges" -- which is to say, concedes -- "human activity is responsible for greenhouse gases, and the problem poses some threats to this country's future."> But he did acknowledge. You certainly wouldn't say 'said', cause that would make it sound like an initial declaration. You could say 'agreed', but I'm sure they'd find that even more offensive. How about we invent a new meaning for an existing word? We'll use 'burps' here. "The White House burps that they were wrong..." It will mean that although we are acknowledging a mistake, we're burping in your face anyway. Isn't it the Conservatives who have been waxing on and on about the ridiculousness of PC? Isn't this just semantic PC? Again, an example of argumentative hypocracy.
