Perhaps the EU is upset because our subsidies are less than the subsidies provided by the EU. French dairy subsidies are notorious within the EU itself. I seem to remember a discussion of banana subsidies a while back.

BTW, I believe that the record shows that our sugar subsidies cause the price of sugar in the United States to be higher than it would be without them, particularly if we allowed the importation of Cuban sugar.
