Well, in my own limited experience on stocks I own or follow, the pattern usually is: stock is moving up just before split, stock continues to move up right after split, after a month or so the stock starts to trend downward for awhile. I've seen this with splits on CSCO, USRX, MSFT...

Long term stocks that split do better than the overall market. I read this in Barrons, I believe. The idea is that if a stock splits, it must be doing well, and investors pick up on this and fuel the momentum.
