Yes, but the problem with that position is what I've come to think of as the Algerian problem. That is, trying to occupy and govern a hostile society bent on evicting you. It's a formula for more suicide bombing or worse; not a path to a solution.

And I'm afraid it gets worse because of the potential connection with Al Qaeda. I know there is much speculation on the thread that the Palestinians are but pawns for Al Qaeda. I don't see strong evidence to that effect. At least not yet. It still looks more like a nationalist struggle.
But if this keeps up I'm afraid that's among some of the next steps.
