I know there is much speculation on the thread that the Palestinians are but pawns for Al Qaeda. I don't see strong evidence to that effect. At least not yet. It still looks more like a nationalist struggle.

"Pawns for al Qaeda" misstates the speculation. The speculation is that the PA is acting as a proxy force for the radical Arab regimes.

The clue will found by following the money. A pure nationalist struggle would be funded only by expat Palestinians. Not the case here at all. What's the motivation behind Saudi, Syrian, Iranian, Iraqi funding? Hatred of Israel? surely. Keeping their population's dissatisfactions aimed outside the country? Yup. Running interference for Saddam Hussein? that too.
