The one thing we may be sure of is that all borders change over time. The issue of Quebec really has little to do with the pressures (for instance) which impact on Western Canada to choose certain Americanizing options. In the end, groups of people attempt to do what is in their own best interests. Economic interest generally weighs very heavily as a factor.

Canadians ought to be protective of some of the differences which define their character. On the other hand, resistance to change must be grounded in deeper motives than sentimentality...
