Hopefully, that fashion statement is becoming passe. The nose ring is disgusting, the eyelid ring is dangerous but the sound of clunking metal on their teeth when they talk is ridiculous.

I was advising a college senior who was having a difficult time getting a teaching job. She went for several interviews in upscale, traditional school systems and wasn't offered the job. She had rings in her lids, nose, lip, several in her ears and when she talked, all you could hear was clanking.

I told her that many administrators might find all of this metal to look unprofessional for a teacher. Her response was, " They can take it or leave it...but I'm not changing. I'm proud of who I am." A year later, she's still a proud, unemployed teacher.
