OT Partytime,

At least I now know where you got the statistics. Thank you for your explanation.

I will say this, however, I don't believe the statistic, or say rather; I think the statistic is derived in an inaccurate and unfair manner.

I suggest to you that the reporting of the number of jailed prisoners in the USA is fairly accurate, but I submit that the statistics regarding the jailing of prisoners in other countries is wildly inaccurate.

Somehow I don't believe that countries like Uganda, Saudi Arabia, Cambodia, Nicaragua and dozens of other places are the least bit interested in full-disclosure to outside agencies. Furthermore, there are lots of places in the world that haven't got a clue what due-process is. Often, offenders are punished by means outside of the judicial system, their families are threatened, property seized, tortured or they're simply put to death. Large investments in trials and prisons aren't desired nor necessary.

I believe the unfair statistic you cite is nothing more than a kind of disinformation published by detractors of our country. Organizations like Amnesty International and Greenpeace and many others who have a vested interested in proving how evil we are.

Regards, Ed
