From Briefing.com: Chip foundries see slower return to peak: report Boutique research firm Fechtor Detwiler reportedly issued a note this morning claiming that Taiwanese wafer starts are now seen returning to the 2000 peak in December of this year instead of September, and says this is the first real indication that the foundries see a slower return to peak utilization. Haven't yet seen much movement in Taiwanese foundry stocks on this report: UMC 7.66 -0.07, TSM 14.10 -0.05.

0:37AM Nasdaq Composite Intraday : -- Technical -- Index has reversed into positive ground after selling off early. From current levels, look for initial resistance at 1511 followed by additional overhead at 1520. To the downside, watch for initial support at 1497 followed by a secondary floor at 1486.

10:22AM Motorola (MOT) 15.00 +0.55: -- Update -- More out of Motorola presentation. Sources telling us that MOT is indicating it expects to meet or exceed consensus for JunQ and that company expects to post a profit in Q3. (The current Multex consensus for Q3 is a profit of $0.03).

10:17AM Motorola higher -- conference comments cited (MOT) 14.70 +0.25: Stock ticks to highs of morning. Hearing that advance being driven by comments issued this morning at Bear Stearns Tech Conference. According tosources, MOT says it is seeing some growth starting to return in all areas of business.

9:45AM SOX ticks into positive territory 419.59 +0.15: Semiconductor Equipment stocks such as KLAC (+1%) and TER(+1.2%) lead push higher.

8:50AM Sun Microsystems: cautious comments by Soundview (SUNW) 6.37: Soundview says that "the deck is stacked against SUNW" and its proprietary platforms due to recent advances in microprocessors at INTC, the success of mainframe Linux for IBM, and European govts' encouragement of Linux; believes vendors like IBM and HPQ will fare better than SUNW during these times of shifting processor and OS dynamics.

8:23AM PC motherboard inventories above normal levels-- RBC : RBC Capital says that checks into Taiwan following the Computex Computer show indicates that inventory levels of PC motherboards remain above seasonally normallevels in the channel; arrival of the newer INTC 845G/GL based chipsets will probably cause prices to drop for older motherboards in the channel; projects short-term strength in add-on video card sales until the overhang of older 845D motherboards dissipates. (See also 8:11 comment on NVDA.)

8:11AM NVIDIA downgraded by RBC Capital (NVDA) 30.60: RBC Capital downgrades to SECTOR PERFORM from Outperform; cites recent data points from Computex trade show and channel checks with Taiwanese motherboard suppliers, which show that PC market remains weak and that Intel (INTC) is proliferating the 845G chipset with integrated graphics, thereby producing significant PC market share losses for NVDA.

8:05AM LM Ericsson sells chip unit to Infineon (ERICY) 1.81: Infineon (IFX 15.51) agrees to purchase the core business of Ericsson Microelectronics, Ericsson's internal semiconductor supplier, for 400 mln euros ($378 mln at current exchange rate).

I have gone 100% into cash in my trading account. The Sept low for the SOX is 20% lower than where it stands now and I'm almost certain we will test that low.
