And all this time I thought 1X was a competing network to FOMA

There's no doubt 1x is competition to FOMA .. even after taking into account all the KDDI transfers from PDC to 1x. But imho the WCDMA people can't save face right now, and so they use a '3G' skirt to hide behind when they aren't burying their heads in the sand.

To WCDMA proponents and some pundits, 1x is 2.5G. One sometimes hears the low speed (less than 2 or 2.4 Mbps) is the reason. Well, I think when DV arrives with its 2.4 Mbps, DV will STILL be 2.5G to the WCDMA people.

The reason then will be that IMT2000 approved MC-CDMA (multi-carrier CDMA) as an RTT. I THINK that MC is a direct reference to wideband, i.e., 3x. Is my interpretation of "MC" correct?
