>What new ways do you foresee to communicate with a device such as this?

Besides the plethora of obvious traditional computer-like interfaces linked wireless to the digital hearing aid, I have thought about others that may not be so obvious. For example, trucks might emit a high-frequency danger warning when backing up, rather than the customary beeping. The device could warn the owner in English, "Allen, watch out for the truck." To minimize false alarms, or needless warnings, the device might measure the Doppler effect to determine proximity and danger.

Similarly, buildings addresses, vendor services and street markings could be continually transmitted to passersby, enabling easy determination of locations and services as required, without the need for GPS or sophisticated triangulation techniques to determine location. Most of the time these signals would go unused, just like regular signs. But they would be there when needed.

>And do you mean it would have my wife's voice pattern and when things get a little
>rough I could have it tune out and play me some Mozart?

This is one of an infinity of useful applications, but don't tell your wife or your smart device would be made dumb.
