Peter and all,

I have wondered whether some of the extreme volatility in the markets is due in part to the large pool of capital that has in recent years been made available to certain hedge funds. And much of that capital has been devoted to trading rather than capital formation and investment.

Do some of these funds represent a risk to long term capital formation and should they be regulated so that at least their activities are transparent to the equity markets?
