They used to put us kids up there in the balcony because we weren't allowed down in with the adults of the parish during Mass. We were only allowed in the church for the hymns which was 20 minutes before Mass, then off to Sunday School. Well before church, there was this organ grinder and his little monkey. We had a money in our hankies that was to go into the collection box but for a nickle, you could get the monkey to give you a small bag of freshly popped popcorn. That little monkey was too cute for words! He took the money, put it in his little cup, shook it a few times, then handed you a small bag. Who could resist?
