Hi Kevin,
You know when you go through the layering of the propaganda machine, it can get not only really convoluted, but also really Machiavellian.
Let's say that last Sunday, the PEOC group, the secret puppetmasters who scheme 100 feet below the Resident's feet in the Oral Office come up with the Padilla announcement in order to control the media agenda on Monday. They enroll Ashcroft, who's only too willing to read the script. So, they ace Monday, controlling the agenda. Then Tuesday, the chinks in the armor start to come out as intelligent observers like Maureen Dowd and others point out the obvious. That this street punk is in no way capable of being the monster he's portrayed as. So Wolfowitz comes out, rope-a-doping Ashcroft and that gains the headlines on Wednesday. Implying that Bush and his closest people are reasonable, while Ashcroft, already taking heat for the FBI stuff last week, and his totally timely decision to torpedo anti-terrorist budgets on Sept. 10, is left to twist in the wind, while the image of the President is held out to be reasonable and above the fray. All the while, the entire chessboard is being manipulated by the PEOC crew, who are feeding whatever spin they can to keep the story under control and the President looking, well, Presidential.
In the meantime, they have Congress totally tied up in knots on the reorganization of the government's Homeland smorgassbord Cabinet. Neatly blocking any effort whatsoever to further Intelligence Committee investigations into 9/11, and utterly stalling any reform for the financial markets.
Keep your eye on the pea. This shell game isn't over yet. |
