"Sharing? I would think they would SELL them to whoever wanted to buy them, Canadian or not. No?"

That is my point. Their first allegiance (legally and morally) is to the Canadian Family...

"The US had to go through some wrenching changes on the way to its current position"

I understand that...

"If the US gov't has any intention of taking any Canadian territory, it's not apparent."

They would only do so under extreme need. I was speaking of mutual deal making. I am sure it will come within 15 years...

"that is true of any reasonably free and democratic society- -including yours."

Yep. That is what I just said. Canada takes a more collective approach. I suspect the optimum response is somewhere in the middle. I learned a long time ago to trust the wisdom of the common people...

"But a few don't win everything in American society"

But they try to (fair enough). My point is that our (the Canadian) system is geared to force one to labour to supply (in particular) the health needs of strangers. Obviously, considering the validity of these issues requires the recognition that ignoring the weak and the disadvantaged results in real consequences. The young are far too wise (sarcasm)...to rationalize these affects.

"We have the largest middle class in the world in the US. How can a few be winning everything?"

I am referring not only to what is earned...but to what is shared. I believe that intelligent sharing prevents a great deal of loss through crime, prison, etc. We cannot escape the fact that many are constitutionally weak and of little value to economic society. It is foolish to pay for these people to live in prison and to contemplate new harm against us.

"But that's exactly what capitalism in tandem with democracy can avoid"

It can avoid it if you include compassion, intelligence, and pragmatism...
