Xybernaut Awarded Hardware Contract for Armed Forces
Wearable/Mobile Computing Technologies Support Variety of Maintenance Activities in Three Branches of U.S. Military
FAIRFAX, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 13, 2002-- Xybernaut® Corporation (NASDAQ: XYBR - News), the leader in wearable computing and communications solutions, today announced a contract award of approximately $370,000 in hardware to support the deployment of wearable computing solutions for three branches of the United States Armed Forces.
Marine Corps, Air Force and Navy maintenance teams will utilize the mobile/wearable computing equipment for a variety of technical functions throughout the United States.
Xybernaut's Mobile Assistant® V (MA® V) wearable computers form the foundation of the mobile/wearable platform. Additional components of the solution include Microvision Head Mounted Displays, MicroOptical Head Mounted Displays and advanced camera/optics technologies from Oxford Technology. Xybernaut will provide additional hardware components, as needed, under reseller agreements with these and other leading technology providers.
All three of the U.S. armed forces branches acquired the hardware through Xybernaut's listing on World Wide Technology's (WWT) GSA Schedule. This order represents the first award to utilize Xybernaut's GSA Schedule procurement instrument. Additional Department of Defense and civilian government organizations are expected to take advantage of the availability of Xybernaut's GSA Schedule throughout the remainder of 2002 and beyond.
