Japanese carrier KDDI, long an also-ran to mobile data pioneers DoCoMo, launched CDMA-standard 3G service on April 1 and has signed up 829,000 users thus far, said Hideo Okinaka, KDDI's general manager of strategic technology planning.

"We are getting 10,000 subscribers a day," he said, describing Japan as a "battlefield between CDMA 2000 and WCDMA."....

That's getting exciting. When will worldwide monthly CDMA sales exceed monthly GSM sales? That will be a very major watershed.

We don't hear about Irwin Jacobs using superlatives like "amazing" very often. Or at all for that matter. I guess that means something important.
