Kerry, I don't think the USA has suffered major losses [as a proportion of GDP] as a result of earthquakes and typhoons. But otherwise, your list is accurate:

<a) Real estate bubble

b) Huge propensity to buy anything (stocks, real estate, commodities) at the absolutely highest prices

c) Self imposed feeling of isolation, perhaps due in some part to being an island nation

d) Losses due to monumental earthquakes and typhoons

e) Favor traditions and culture over solid economic thinking
