Well, this is just off the top of my head, but you should remember the bank account because "I Remember Mama" was loosely based on Kathryn Forbes' book Mama's Bank Account.

The film, released in 1948, actually contains richer detail and more intricate characterizations than the book. It is based in turn-of-the-century San Francisco, and young Katrina Hansen chronicles episodes of life with her extended family, who combine traditional Norwegian values with "modern" American ways.

The movie was so successful that it became a popular radio show, and then a TV sitcom, with Barbara BelGeddes as and Irene Dunne as Katrin and with Cedric Hardwicke as Mr. Hyde, Edgar Bergen as Mr. Thorkelson and Rudy Vallee as Dr. Johnson in the film.

But they were replaced by Peggy Wood as Marta Hansen aka Mama, Judson Laire as 'Papa' Lars Hansen and Rosemary Rice as Katrin in the tv series, which officially was just called "Moma", on NBC, if memory serves.

I've always remembered that the original TV part of Nel's was played by a very young Marlon Brando, but no one I have ever talked to remembers him in the role.

I'll try to look it up for you, if I get a chance, to get you some detail, later.
