Unicenter TNG

Business Wire - July 14, 1997 17:29
MacOS Desktops to Manage The Enterprise

Apple to Make Unicenter TNG Strategic Enterprise Management Platform

Computer Associates International, Inc. (CA) and Apple Computer, Inc. today
announced that they are working together to enable the enterprise-wide
management of Apple systems, including MacOS and Rhapsody, by CA's
industry-leading Unicenter TNG solution. For the first time, users will be
able to manage their entire IT infrastructure from MacOS desktops using
Unicenter TNG's Java-based Web browser interface.

"Integrated management is a fundamental requirement for the effective use of
Apple systems in today's enterprise IT environment," said CA Chairman and
CEO Charles B. Wang. "Unicenter TNG will enable IT managers to monitor and
administer Macintosh desktops and servers with the same ease and precision
as the rest of their computing resources."

"By incorporating management by and for the MacOS and Rhapsody, CA will make
Unicenter TNG an excellent solution for managing heterogeneous Mac-and-PC
computing environments," said Apple Executive Vice President of Marketing
Guerrino De Luca. "Working with Unicenter TNG as our strategic enterprise
management platform will greatly assist in integrating Apple computers into
the corporate infrastructure, and allows users to maintain the low
cost-of-ownership for the platform."

CA will enable Unicenter TNG to monitor the same parameters on MacOS systems
as it does on other platforms, including CPU utilization, memory
utilization, file and disk usage and drive failures. It will also provide
Macintosh-specific instrumentation. Apple supports CA's Unicenter TNG object
model for IT resource management.

Apple expects Rhapsody, its next generation object-oriented operating
system, to provide customers with an environment that delivers
industrial-strength performance, stability and new classes of software for
computing into the next century, while preserving customers investment in
hardware and software. Customers in markets such as print publishing,
multimedia, Internet/intranet Web authoring, corporate application
development, higher education and engineering/scientific will quickly
benefit from the advantages of moving to the Rhapsody platform.

Unicenter TNG is an integrated enterprise management solution that enables
organizations to manage all IT resources, encompassing heterogeneous
networks, systems, applications, and databases. It provides comprehensive
end-to-end enterprise management for TCP/IP, SNA, IPX/SPX and DECnet
networks, and 40 platforms including desktops, Windows NT, UNIX, AS/400,
NetWare and mainframe environments. Unicenter TNG is the only fully
integrated management solution covering network discovery, topology,
