< 100 Students whip out their phones to call one another. Cell Capacity goes from zero traffic to fully utilized in about 45 seconds>

PCS, That's not much good for people in the area trying to conduct their business.

No bills! No surprises. The account would be prepaid: <The first bill that shows up charging them $10 dollars for their daughters 1 minute phone call to see where they are going for lunch would be 1 less subscriber. > The imbecile daughters who seem unable to say no [the boys in their schools must be on easy street] would not get bills. They'd have a balance on their account and when it's spent, the phone would stop working. Then Daddy would top it up again.

If their IQ is so low that they can't figure it out, maybe their parents will pay more money, or maybe not. I don't see why people with self-control should subsidize imbecile daughters who can't 'just say no' to a $10 a minute price showing on the screen.

It might even be good for them to learn that things cost money and money is not in unlimited supply. Self-control is a necessary function in life.

I doubt that prices would be that extreme [other than in very unusual circumstances because there are too many stingy people like you and me - we'd leave the coast clear for the imbecile daughters at about $1 a minute].

People want simplicity and predictability, that's true. Unfortunately for them, the world is not highly predictable and is definitely not simple. But a price on a screen is quite simple for people to understand. Press SEND to accept. Running total on the screen. Easy peasy. Simple. Predictable. Glance at phone - see the charges.

Most people dislike the USSR idea of fixed, centrally-planned, prices for all with queues and poor service. Lazy, greedy imbeciles being subsidized by smarter people with self-control is the underlying problem with communist systems.

That's my supply and demand theory anyway. Maybe it'll get a test run someday in the telecommunications industry. It works for selling tomatoes at the markets.
