Semi, Re: "I haven't seen any published reports of Server Makers Rejecting the current Itanium2. Do you have any?" According to Constantine, you should be able to find it in any trade publication. Message 17548151;
---If so, then there should be lots of web links to show me...... Are there? I haven't seen them. All I'm asking is for the "Messenger" to deliver "The Message", instead of "Interpreting The Message" with a "Hammer Bias", and delivering that. Then "crying" that the "Messenger" shouldn't be blamed for adding their own message.
--If Charles can show me links to back up his claims, then I will be HAPPY to criticize the message instead of the messenger. Otherwise....... All I have to go on is the claims of someone who has admitted his Hammer bias.... and posted nothing but criticism for "Itanic" (His Use Of The Word Itanium):
http://www.siliconinvestor.com/readmsg.aspx?msgid=17548166 Semi, are you saying that engineers drive the product development and release at Intc? I thought it was marketers. When Intc went with rambus, people had NO problems with rambus the company other than the royalty payments. The reason why it failed was because it was 2-3 times as expensive as the alternatives with little performance benefit especially for the lowly 1.3-1.6 Ghz P4s that Intel sold the 1st year. I don't care to follow this argument further, let's wait until there are real app benchmarks on Itanic/Itanic2 and then we can pick it up again. I would be more than glad to take back all my comments if Itanic is actually a good overall performer. C
http://www.siliconinvestor.com/readmsg.aspx?msgid=17543936 Pete, you are correct that Intel may not ramp that quickly but I think all their .13 fabs are not yet fully ramped anyway so I think they will use the spare capacity in those fabs to ramp Prescott. Also, you're making the assumption that AMD will deliver and ramp Hammer with no more slips. Personally, I want the Hammer to succeed but it's not a done deal yet... C
http://www.siliconinvestor.com/readmsg.aspx?msgid=17549559 wbmw, hmm, yes, ok, but still Hammer seems to have more early on support than any previous AMD launch. I am really tempted to load up on AMD now since it seems that my previous worries about the Hammer are gone now. I think AMD will do great with this new CPU..... C
