Canadian minister chides U.S. on trade policy

By TOM COHEN Associated Press Writer

HALIFAX, Nova Scotia (AP) -- U.S. trade policies such as agriculture subsidies hinder the ability of rich nations to convince others to reform their economies, Canadian Finance Minister John Manley said Friday.

Who says we want them to "reform"? They should do whatever they want and we should do the same. We shouldn't cooperate with competitors. That's sell-out socialism.

...

Manley told journalists the American agriculture policy undermined efforts to get other countries to open markets.

Who wants them to open? It's in the interest of the US that they remain closed and that means uncompetitive.

"It's going to be difficult for all of us to advance the cause of liberalization" in the new round of global trade talks agreed to last November, Manley said.

Good. Why should the US dance to Canadian "liberalization", meaning Canadian cheating? Let Canada compete if their socialists will let them. Socialism can only raise tariffs.
