Actually, I think the thread has some very realistic expectations for Itanium 2. Most people here are eager to see real systems shipping from the OEMs. Unlike Merced, McKinley is not a dog; it performance quite nice, and infrastructure has grown since last year. McKinley is a milestone, and an important one. Windows .NET server is another, and I expect to see that by the end of the year, too. Neither product release is going to cause anyone to trip over themselves to upgrade, but they are both a step in the right direction, and each step brings Intel that much closer to realizing a tangible income for the quarter. I think the thread should start getting really excited if and when Intel gets a positive ROI on future Itanium sales, but it might take quite a few quarters after McKinley launches before we see that.
