>A referee needs to make sure players play according the rules, at the same time to make sure a game is played in a competitive, fair and enjoyable way. As a ref, all we do really is game management. The ref could have shown a lot more cards when the Portuguese ganged up on him after he showed the red...he just let them, stood firm, cracked a few smiles, stood his ground, whistled to restart as quick as he could. He gave them a gift at the end which Figo barely missed....to leave a good taste in their mouth and not let them go bananas in the end against him...this Portuguese team was just a powder keg about to go off today, they were lucky only two of them "lost" it. I have a dream....One day you guys will see me ref in the WC.....nice dream<g>
