Yes ! We need them! We need some public servants with at least the integrity of some of the thoughtful posters on this thread. The machinery of politics grinds people up, pays them well, supports them in a little coocoon of PR flaks and ass-kissers, and props them in front of the paid-off media. I've seen it up close and personal.
What is needed are those who actually believe in public service. I don't even care what their politics are, right/left etc., just a sincere desire to help the Republic for their term. Instead we have a Weasel Factory, funded by business and spook money, spitting out pre-planned position papers by pundits for paralized pols.
Right now, it's the "every man for himself" rule in Washington, and "get out before the next investigation". No one has any historical perspective on what it means to be a civic representative. That debate has been stolen from us by the media, and is only left in books, which no one reads anymore. |
