The problem is when an author strings together items: "welfare-state-supporting, gun-grabbing, Constitution-ignoring leftists who suppress dissent" That's a phony composite. There are individuals in each category, but few in all. Most leftists support dissent quite vigorously, from all spectra, IMO. The extremists on the right or left tend to suppress dissent, certainly. Altho', Michael Savage yesterday decided to have an "equal time" program for "Liberal callers only". I caught a few calls. Savage is still stuck in boring extremist cliches, but 20% of it was interesting, and if more extremists of all spectra would do that some light would emerge from the heat.
