steve

just to pitch in with a thought for you...

you said, in part, "Having a problem running scandisk.... Disabled Norton utilities"

my question is, why not run the norton equivalent of windows scandisk, disk doctor? it's a far superior tool for the job. in other words, why are you shutting nu off when you could be using it?

you'll still need to follow the good advice of former joe and dennis, i.e, shut off all background applications except systray and explorer, but then run disk doctor, not scan disk. in fact, disk doctor may not be as sensitive to the rewrites as scandisk is, and your problem may alleviate itself to some extent.

fyi, most of the time in the scenario you've described, it is antivirus program and/or screensaver running that causes the constant restarting.

best of luck, and keep asking questions!

:)
