Yes, the funny thing was that most of our search had been in Silver Spring and Takoma Park, then suddenly just the right sort of deal opened up in Bethesda. My wife will be able to cut her commute in half, at least, in terms of time. More than that, there will be no drive to the MARC train, no long walk in Union Station to get to the Metro. We are 5 or 10 minutes from where my mother moved in downtown Bethesda, assuming decent traffic, perhaps 15 minutes from my favorite deli. If one takes the Beltway to Connecticut Avenue, then drops down, the Zoo is now about 20 minutes away. If one takes Connecticut over to the beginning of Rock Creek Parkway, M Street is about 20 minutes away, and the Mall perhaps 30. Wisconsin/Rockville Pike is on the Beltway side of the development, Old Georgetown Road on the other side. Oddly, taking the Old Georgetown Road route puts me where my father used to live, roughly. I used to see it on weekends when I was a teenager. It has changed a lot, but is still familiar enough to make a peculiar impression........
