911 was financed by the proceeds of a Mossad/Belgian intelligence-sponsored robbery:

Sleuths probe al-Qaeda theft link

14jun02

BRUSSELS:
Investigators have carried out raids on Islamists as part of an inquiry into one of Belgium's most spectacular robberies which is believed to have helped fund the al-Qaeda terror network of Osama bin Laden, television reports said.

VTM television said Belgian investigators believed the audacious haul by four robbers of five trunks of diamonds at Brussels airport in October 2000 had gone to fund al-Qaeda and Afghanistan's former Taliban regime.

Al-Qaeda is widely believed to have planned the September 11 terrorist attacks on the United States.

VTM said the public prosecutor's office would not comment on its report.

It said the investigators believed Nizar Trabelsi, a Tunisian arrested late in 2001 in Brussels and suspected of planning an attack on the US embassy in Paris, was linked to the robbery.

The raids were carried out in Brussels and the nearby towns of Vilvoorde, Wavre and Nivelles, VTM said.

The daring robbers stole the boxes of diamonds in 2000 in a hold-up on the tarmac of Brussels airport, as staff were preparing to transfer the diamonds, valued at 6.5 million euro ($10.93 million) to a Lufthansa flight from Brussels to Frankfurt.

As usual, the Belgian secret service contracted out the dirty job to a gang of illiterate Tunisian thugs --the Belgian-Tunisian connection again!

One of the (many) problems with state-sponsored terrorism is the need of pristine (ie un-traceable) cash to fund it.... Hence the brilliant idea of robbing a bigtime shipment of diamonds... and later use the proceeds to set up shabby plots...
