zen, you need to go taunt another thread..this one isnt gonna bite..we have been through 99 and 2000 so..Its a long stretch that we are gonna go crazy shortin stuff simply to short stuff......

This market wants to run we let it run, Im long SUNW, CSCO , BRCD and a few others and Ill be blowin them out shortly..I wish i was long AMD,, aand a few others but ..we arent stupid..I am mostly cash waiting for Mom and Pop to jump in to the fire so i can eat.

A@P: I wasn't taunting you... sorry for the confusion. I was merely replying to some ludicrous poster's earlier BS saying I don't know what I'm talking about, and that he would love to be on the other side of my trades. I *then* challenged him to short AAPL, but please note that it wasn't until after *he* made the challenge. Unfortunately for him, I'll now be up about 1,000% over the last 2 months. But I imagine they'll still be talking trash.

I figured you go long too... especially in this market. And heck, you even bought CSCO, one we both think is overpriced! I use to buy stocks even though I didn't like the fundamentals, but I'm trying to stay away from that now. Well... maybe I should say I *usually* don't. Trends are trends... play them how you see them.

>>>waiting for Mom and Pop to jump in the fire so i can eat<<<

LOL.. I'm curious to see when you plan on doing that. Are you talking long term short positions or short term trading on overbought signals?

And Tony's response:

Message 15686030

No harm ....no foul... im an easy goin guy, after all I expected a bone crushing venture on the long side.

I cant see stayin long toomuch longer

And then they go on to discuss stocks to possibly sell short, why shorting was so risky (at that point in time), why Tony was only long some stocks (no shorts) and why Tony was long cash. And remember, this exchange took place on Tony's thread, not some other thread.

So let's look at what Tony said in that post... (Bolding is my interpretation of what he was saying.)

zen, you need to go taunt another thread.. [Tony thinks Zen Warrior has come on the thread for taunting purposes.] this one isnt gonna bite.. [Tony wants nothing to do with an exchange of taunts.] we have been through 99 and 2000 so.. [Tony refers to years 1999 and 2000.] Its a long stretch that we are gonna go crazy shortin stuff simply to short stuff...... [Tony implies that Zen Warrior is way off base in thinking that Tony (and his friends; see the we?) are short, simply because they are shorters. Tony is implying that they go short when there's a reason to go short, not go short just for the heck of it. Remember, the stock in question here is AAPL (Apple Computer) which is a NASDAQ stock, not some OTCBB garbage. Real company; real earnings; real support from a vast number of shareholders.]

This market wants to run we let it run, [Tony is saying that the market is going higher, and by implication that he thinks the valuations are already too high, but he's not going to fight the trend by going short.] Im long SUNW, CSCO , BRCD and a few others and Ill be blowin them out shortly.. [Tony mentions his long positions, but states he'll be selling shortly, which is to reinforce the prior statement which implies that Tony thinks valuations are too high.] I wish i was long AMD,, aand a few others [Tony mentions AMD, which I guess was doing quite well to the long side in this time frame.] but ..we arent stupid.. [This is another reference to valuation, meaning that AMD may be going up in price, but it's overvalued already, and only someone stupid (in Tony's opinion) would chase the stock's performance.] I am mostly cash waiting for Mom and Pop to jump in to the fire so i can eat. [Because Tony perceives that valuations are too high, he's sitting on cash rather than go long. And he can't short in a market that's rising on overvaluations. So he's waiting until Mom and Pop (a rather popular expression for the small investor; see also the definitions for Joe Investor, Jane Doe, John Doe, Joe Six-Pack, common man, Wall Street's little guy, etc...) also jumps into the overvalued market, which to a shorter signals a market top. And then when people come to their senses and the market starts to decline because it's overvalued, then he can short again, which is what he knows best, and shorting is what puts food on his table. (Hence the reference to "so I can eat".)]

So, in summary, this is a very routine exchange between Tony and some other poster. Nothing sinister, evil or immoral implied. Simply a routine exchange.
